The Randwick parish catechists visit Randwick Public School on Wednesday mornings and Rainbow St Public School on Thursday mornings. Our catechists teach around 150 children from Kindergarten to Year 6. The parish supplies all materials for the children and the catechists. Catechists are encouraged to participate in the three-year accreditation course.
Training for this most important ministry is offered through the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. New catechists do preparatory workshops offered by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine - the body in charge of catechists for Government Schools, and to ensure the suitability of each catechist for their role. Some people will find they are more comfortable as an assistant to a catechist. All are given time to observe other catechists before taking on the role. There is also an opportunity each year to attend workshops and conferences organised by the CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine).
Catechists must have a Working With Children Clearance - and our Parish Office will help you obtainthis on line. Inservices are offered each year for our catechists on Child Safe practices for their role.
